In Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, the 2018 KHL All-Star Weekend has begun. SKA are represented by goalkeeper Igor Shestyorkin, defenseman Patrik Hersley and forwards Ilya Kovalchuk and Nikita Gusev. Ilya is the Bobrov Division captain. For the second consecutive year, the format is divisions, not conferences.

The Bobrov, Chernyshev and Kharlamov divisions all earned two points, while the Tarasov division only took one. Dan Sexton (Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk) was the fastest skater, giving the Kharlamov division an early lead. The Chernyshev division then won the Biathlon challenge. After that, the Bobrov Division won the defensive challenge, as Igor Shestyorkin was the goaltender and Ilya Kovalchuk and Nikita Gusev combined for a goal. Patrik Hersley won the shot challenge, smashing the puck harder than anyone else. Nigel Dawes won the shootout competition, but Nikita Gusev scored with a beautiful attempt. The Tarasov division won the skills test, before the Kharlamov division proved to be the fastest skaters.

Tomorrow at 14:00 Moscow time, the KHL All-Star Game will begin.
