On September 7th, a meeting took place in Karelia between SKA vice-president Roman Rotenberg, SKA general director Andrei Tochitsky and the temporary Republic of Karelia head Artur Parfenchikov. During the briefing, matters concerning the development of ice hockey in the North-West region were discussed.
Later on in Kondopoga, an agreement was signed between the Russian Ice Hockey Federation, the Minstry of Youth, Physical Culture and Sport in the Republic of Karelia, SKA Hockey Club and the Karelia Olympic Committee concerning the development of youth ice hockey in the republic.
Following the signing of that agreement, the SKA-Karelia school was given an opening ceremony before a match between Karelia and SKA-Strelna-2008. Five groups from this ice hockey school will train at the Kondopoga Ice Arena, a stadium which has modern infrastructure.
The SKA-Karelia ice hockey school is a part of the SKA Academy. In the past, VHL and MHL teams from the SKA system played in Kondopoga.
