Sergei Shirokov is a forward who graduated from the HC CSKA Moscow system, and he began his professional career in 2002. In the 2006 NHL Draft, he was picked 163rd by the Vancouver Canucks, and he competed for the club's farm club in the AHL. He returned to Russia in 2011 with CSKA, however he then made a move to Avangard Omsk. Sergei signed for SKA during the 2015/2016 season.
During his career, Sergei has played for different Russian national teams since 2004. He won a bronze medal at the 2004 under 18 World Championship, and took silver at the 2005 and 2006 World Junior Championships. With the senior side, he became a world champion in 2014, and followed that up with a silver and bronze in 2015 and 2016 respectively.
