HOW THE SEASON TURNED OUT
Evgeny Ketov, one of SKA's most experienced players, enjoyed his seventh campaign in Saint Petersburg. During the 2018/2019 campaign, Evgeny often wore the "C" on his jersey, a tradition which continued this season.
The 34-year-old was nearly always placed in one line with Evgeny Ketov. Over the course of the season, the pair were joined by various players in the same line, with Andrei Kuzmenko, Kirill Marchenko, Joonas Kemppainen and Maxim Karpov playing alongside them, before changes were made ahead of the Gagarin Cup playoffs. In the end, Evgeny was put in a line with Joonas and Sergei Plotnikov, with the trio competing in the same line in 10 games.
Evgeny impressed with his scoring skills. Overall, he managed to score 14 goals in the campaign, with 13 of them having been tallied in the regular season. The last time when Evgeny registered 13 goals in one KHL regular season was in the 2010/2011 edition of the competition for Severstal Cherepovets.
Two of this goals were scored shorthanded. Evgeny has long been known for his ability to score crucial markers when on the penalty kill.
Interestingly, when playing at equal strength, SKA only conceded 10 goals in the entire season with Evgeny on the ice. CSKA defenseman Klas Dahlbeck is the only other player in the KHL to boast such a record.
Taking all campaigns into account, Evgeny has competed in 342 KHL regular season games for SKA, a club record. That total rises to 418 if we consider playoff matches too.
"Thank you to the fans for the support, it's great that the Ice Palace is always sold out," stated Evgeny when giving an interview in the season.
