HOW THE SEASON UNFOLDED
This was Vasily Tokranov's second campaign as a SKA player. After undergoing an operation, Vasily trained individually during the summer training camps, before he eventually returned to competitive action in the second half of September. Following his return to the ice, the defenseman stood out for SKA on the powerplay, netting four goals on the man advantage.
At the end of February, Vasily popped up with an unexpected hat trick, hitting the target three times in a pulsating triumph at Salavat Yulaev in Ufa. That victory also marked the first occasion in the KHL when Vasily scored more than one goal in a single match.
Between November and the clinching game against Vityaz, Vasily was always paired up with Igor Ozhiganov in the SKA defence, with the pair often providing vital attacking power from the blue line on the powerplay. It's also worth noting that Vasily was SKA's fastest defenseman on the ice as he clocked a maximum speed of 36.6 kilometers per hour in one regular season game.
"We're always confident in ourselves, what's the point in playing if that isn't the case? You have to fight until the end," said Vasily when giving an interview to the press during the campaign.
In the Gagarin Cup playoffs, the 30-year-old contributed with one assist in the second match against Vityaz in Saint Petersburg, while not finishing any game with a negative plus/minus rating.
