In Kazan, SKA heroically made a third-period comeback to force overtime against Ak Bars on the road in the 2020/2021 KHL regular season, but the hosts subsequently scored the winner to emerge victorious by a score of 3:2.
Stanislav Galiev and Patrick Cormier both hit the target in the second and third stanza respectively to put Ak Bars in the box seat. However, in the final nine minutes of regulation, Andrei Kuzmenko and Anton Burdasov registered goals for SKA to salvage a point. The equaliser was tallied on the powerplay with only 28 seconds remaining.
Unfortunately, though, Nigel Dawes beat Alexander Samonov from close range in the extra frame to earn the win for Ak Bars.
SKA will now prepare to face Torpedo in Nizhny Novgorod on Tuesday. Puck drop is scheduled for 19.30 local time.
