In an exciting battle, SKA couldn't hold on against Amur Khabarovsk on the road in the 2021/2022 KHL regular season, conceding a slender 2:3 defeat.
SKA initially took the lead on the powerplay towards the end of the first period, as Andrei Kuzmenko cut sharply to the slot from behind the net and neatly squeezed the puck into the right corner.
However, moments later, Gleb Zyryanov pounced on a big rebound on the crease to backhand beyond SKA goaltender Dmitry Nikolaev.
Both teams had their chances during a fast-paced second stanza. To our relief, SKA managed to tally their second of the day on the powerplay in the 30th minute, with Anton Burdasov unleashing a trademark one-timer past Amur goalkeeper Evgeny Alikin who was caught out of position.
SKA controlled proceedings well during the ensuing third frame. Nevertheless, Amur had a surprise up their sleeves for our team, equalising in the 54th minute through Alexander Gorshkov's low attempt from a seemingly impossible angle on the left wing before Sergei Tereshchenko hit the jackpot from distance on a late powerplay.
Our players will now prepare to play Admiral Vladivostok away from home on Wednesday. Puck-drop is scheduled for 12:30 local time.
