In the quarter-finals of the 2021 IIHF World Championship, the senior Russian national team came up short against Canada, conceding a narrow 1:2 defeat in overtime to consequently bow out of the competition.

The Russians initially opened the scoring in the 35th minute when SKA forward Evgeny Timkin expertly bundled the puck over the line at point-blank range after Dmitry Orlov's first attempt had been stopped. Nevertheless, the Canadians weren't about to lie down, and they got back on level terms in the sixth minute of the third period as Adam Henrique beat Sergei Bobrovsky from the doorstep on the powerplay.

Overtime was indeed required. Unfortunately for our players, it was Canada who managed to tally the winner, as Andrew Mangiapane completed a flowing play on the slot with Bobrovsky down and out.

Bobrovsky ended the game with 22 saves from 24 shots.
