Once again, SKA endured a difficult night in the 2018/2019 KHL regular season, but a vital goal from Swedish defenseman Patrik Hersley sealed an important 2:1 victory against HC Dinamo Riga in Latvia.
After a goalless first period, Dinamo broke through in the first minute of the second with Linus Videll hitting the target, but SKA grabbed an instant equaliser as Vladislav Gavrikov whipped a brilliant wrister over the goalkeeper's glove. At the start of the decisive third frame, Dinamo thought they had taken the lead again when Andris Dzerins tipped beyond Igor Shestyorkin, but the goal was waved off for goaltender interference.
That proved to be the match's turning point. In practically the next play, Patrik Hersley wound up for a huge slapper, whacking the puck past the stricken Dinamo goalkeeper. 2:1, SKA get back to winning ways in the Latvian capital!
