In a highly eventful battle, SKA just came up short against Jokerit Helsinki on the road in the 2021/2022 KHL regular season, conceding a narrow 4:5 defeat in overtime.

David Sklenicka netted the winner for Jokerit midway through the extra frame.

In the first period, Niklas Jensen opened the scoring in the opening minute, before Mat Robinson equalised on the powerplay for his maiden SKA goal.

The manner of proceedings didn't change in the second stanza.

Teemu Turunen saw his marker cancelled out by Joonas Kemppainen. On a two-man advantage, Philip Holm sent a searing wrister high into the left corner, but Igor Ozhiganov got SKA back on level terms before the period was out.

SKA looked to have taken a decisive lead with one minute remaining in the third period, as Andrei Kuzmenko converted a stunning individual effort. Jokerit weren't having any of it, though, and the Finnish hosts sent a pulsating game into overtime as Jordan Schroeder went top-shelf on Lars Johansson from the left faceoff circle.

Our team will now prepare to host Barys Nur-Sultan in Saint Petersburg on Sunday. Puck-drop is scheduled for 17:30 local time.
