This marked SKA's maiden shootout victory against Kunlun Red Star in the KHL. As a consequence, SKA have now beaten 23 different teams in the league in penalty shootouts.
For the 15th time in the Russian championship, SKA recovered from a three-goal deficit. Interestingly, six of those games have taken place in Moscow Region.
This was the second occasion when SKA came back from three goals down in the third period against Kunlun in Mytishchi to emerge victorious. On 22 February 2021, SKA were trailing 0:3 to the Chinese hosts after 40 minutes, before subsequently scoring four unanswered goals in the fourth frame.
Forward Dmitrij Jaskin - who plays for the Czech national team - tallied the 800th goal which was scored by a foreign player for SKA. It's also worth noting that this was the first KHL game in which Jaskin netted a winning penalty shot in a shootout.
In all of his nine KHL matches for SKA against Kunlun, fellow forward Nikita Gusev has always picked up a minimum of one point (5+12).
