In Magnitogorsk, SKA began the next 2018/2019 KHL regular season away series, earning a tough 3:1 victory against HC Metallurg.
During the entire 60 minutes, our players only registered 15 shots on goal and were trailing 0:1 before the final period, but three markers in the third frame defeated Metallurg to earn a crucial two points which keep SKA top of the KHL table.
After a tight, uneventful first period, Metallurg eventually took the lead in the second, as Roman Lyubimov charged past SKA defenseman David Rundblad and clipped the puck over Igor Shestyorkin's pad.
SKA were struggling to create any real opportunities, but in the third stanza, that all changed. Cutting to the slot, Alexei Byvaltsev equalised with a fantastic wrister, before Nail Yakupov scored from point blank range after a stunning Nikita Gusev assist.
In the final seconds, Sergei Plotnikov iced it with an empty net after Metallurg Magnitogorsk pulled goaltender Vasily Koshechkin, sealing a 3:1 triumph which keeps SKA top of the KHL standings!
