Nikita Popugayev is a SKA player!

As a consequence of a trade with HC Sochi, forward Nikita Popugayev has joined SKA. Sochi have received monetary compensation.

Popugayev will wear the number 81 on his jersey. SKA Hockey Club welcomes Nikita to Saint Petersburg, wishing him luck and success with our team!


Nikita Popugayev is a forward born on 20 November 1998 in Moscow, Russia. He stands 197 centimeters tall and weighs 91 kilograms. He progressed through the Dynamo Moscow system, before he subsequently joined fellow capital club CSKA. He made his MHL debut for CSKA in the 2014/2015 campaign. After that, Nikita moved to North America, where he played for the Moose Jaw Warriors and the Prince George Cougars in the WHL. He returned to Russia in 2017 with CSKA and participated in his maiden KHL game on November 22 of the same year.

Nikita then transferred to Amur Khabarovsk before moving to the USA, representing the Binghamton Devils in the AHL and the Adirondack Thunder in the ECHL. In the summer of 2020, Nikita travelled back to Russia with Dynamo Moscow, but he was later traded to Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk. He missed the 2021/2022 season as a result of pausing his career, however he returned to the game this year after penning a contract with Sochi. Popugayev registered 14 (9+5) points in 28 appearances for Sochi.

On the international scene, he won the U17 World Challenge Cup with Russia in the 2014/2015 season and competed in the 2016 Super Series for the under 20 Russian national team.
