7. SKA, 15 matches, 7 regulation victories, 1 overtime victory, 2 penalty shootout victories, 4 regulation defeats, 1 penalty shootout defeat, goal difference 45-32, 21 points

This will be the second 2021/2022 KHL regular season meeting between these two teams. On September 23, Salavat Yulaev Ufa managed to defeat SKA 4:2 in Saint Petersburg, with Sakari Manninen, Shakir Mukhamadullin, Pyotr Khokhryakov and Danil Bashkirov sealing the deal for the Bashkir outfit. After initially falling three goals down, SKA did get back to within one through third-period markers from Anton Burdasov and Evgeny Timkin, but Salavat managed to ice it with an empty-netter from Bashkirov.

Salavat have indeed enjoyed an excellent start to the campaign. Coached by Tomi Lamsa, the Ufa-based organisation have displayed entertaining, effective ice hockey, winning 12 of their opening 15 games to only trail Traktor Chelyabinsk and Metallurg Magnitogorsk in the Eastern Conference. Their three defeats to date have been suffered against Severstal Cherepovets (away, 1:2), Sibir Novosibirsk (home, 1:3) and Ak Bars Kazan (away, 0:2). As usual, their top line consisting of Finnish forwards Manninen (8+6), Markus Granlund (2+12) and Teemu Hartikainen (5+3) has been on fire, while Salavat’s second attacking line of Sergei Shmelyov (5+7), Nikolai Kulyomin (8+2) and Alexander Kadeikin (2+8) is also in fantastic shape. Defenseman Mikhail Naumenkov (1+6), Mukhamadullin (2+2) and Pavel Koledov (0+4) are particularly dangerous at the blue line.

Former SKA defenseman Dinar Khafizullin (0+1) is ruled out of this game as a consequence of being injured.

Lamsa’s troops are coming off the back of two successive wins against Sochi (away, 3:0) and Jokerit Helsinki (home, 3:2 OT). SKA, on the other hand, conceded a 0:3 defeat to Barys on the road in Kazakhstan on Friday in the first match of this particular away series. Previously, SKA had tallied three consecutive victories at home against Traktor (4:3 SO), Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk (2:0) and Lokomotiv Yaroslavl (1:0).

In-form forwards Anton Burdasov (8+6) and Andrei Kuzmenko (2+12) are currently our top scorers with 14 points each. At the point, defensemen Igor Ozhiganov (2+4) and Stepan Falkovsky (0+6) have both registered six points.
