Today, on September 16, SKA will complete the second road trip of the 2021/2022 KHL regular season against HC Sochi.
In truth, it's been a somewhat difficult start to the campaign for Sochi, with the southern club having lost to CSKA Moscow (home, 1:4), Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod (away, 1:2), Kunlun Red Star Beijing (away, 2:3 SO) and Ak Bars Kazan (home, 2:3 SO). Ex SKA goaltender Magnus Hellberg has been solid for Sochi, though, making a number of important saves when in net.
Sochi earned their two victories at home in the maiden two matches of the season against Amur Khabarovsk (4:0) and Vityaz Podolsk (6:5 OT).
So far, SKA have recorded four wins against Severstal Cherepovets (away, 3:2), Lokomotiv Yaroslavl (away, 4:3 SO), Admiral Vladivostok (home, 9:2) and Spartak Moscow (away, 2:0), while concedng two losses to Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg (home, 2:4) and Torpedo (away, 2:3).
In pre-season, these two teams met on two occasions, with SKA winning 3:0 and 4:1 respectively.
