In Saint Petersburg, SKA came up short against Ak Bars Kazan in the 2021/2022 KHL regular season, conceding a 1:3 defeat.
Ak Bars took the lead in the fourth minute of play, as Par Lindholm sent a rasping wrister under Lars Johansson's left arm.
SKA tallied an equaliser not long later with Nikita Gusev catching Igor Bobkov cold from the blue line. However, in the closing minute of the opening frame, Nikita Dynyak once again gave the Tatarstan club the advantage as he got the better of Johansson from the left faceoff circle following an awkward ricochet.
Our players thought they had equalised during the early stages of the third period. However, after a coach's challenge, it was determined that Evgeny Ketov committed slashing against Bobkov's glove when pouncing on the rebound at point-blank range.
Sadly, despite swapping Johansson for the extra skater in the final moments, our team couldn't find that elusive second marker.
SKA will now prepare to host Sochi at the Ice Palace on Thursday. Puck-drop is scheduled for 19:30 local time.
