On the 11th of January, SKA will play HC Avangard Omsk at home in Saint Petersburg.
These two have already played one game against each other this campaign, with SKA winning 3:2 on penalty shots in Omsk. Today, another tough game is expected against a strong Avangard side. The Siberian outfit, boasting the likes of Vladimir Sobotka, Alexander Perezhogin and Dominik Furch, currently occupy second place of the Eastern Conference on 93 points. They have some familiar faces on their roster too, with forwards Anton Burdasov and Alexander Kucheryavenko well known among SKA fans.
Avangard have won three of their past five games, beating Traktor (3:1), Vityaz (3:1) and Lokomotiv (3:2). Maxim Pestushko is their top scorer with 26 points (11+15), while first choice goaltender Dominik Furch holds a 92.2 saves percentage. Interestingly, Avangard and SKA usually play better against each other on the road.
Defeating Dinamo Riga 6:1 and CSKA Moscow 3:2, SKA have returned to the top of the KHL standings. Monday's game with CSKA was a true classic, with SKA surviving a huge overtime scare to triumph in the shootout. Goalkeeper Igor Shestyorkin stopped all three CSKA attempts to seal the win.
The SKA - Avangard match will begin at 19.30 local time inside the Saint Petersburg Ice Palace. Life78 and Match TV will broadcast live, and you can follow events on our official official Twitter account.
