Hosting HC Avtomobilist Ekaterinburg at the Saint Petersburg Ice Palace, SKA finally got back to winning ways in the 2019/2020 KHL regular season, earning a dramatic 2:1 victory in overtime.
After the first period ended goalless, SKA did make the breakthrough in the second, as Jori Lehtera deflected Vasily Tokranov's powerful slap shot beyond Jakub Kovar.
SKA were dominating, but after missing plenty of opportunities to extend the advantage, Avtomobilist equalised at the start of the third frame. Incidentally, this was Swedish goalkeeper Magnus Hellberg's maiden appearance of the campaign after receiving an injury in pre-season.
In the ensuing overtime period, SKA eventually made their dominanc count, as defenseman Artyom Zub beat Kovar to earn the two points.
SKA will now travel to play HC Torpedo in Nizhny Novgorod on October 13.
