In an eventful encounter, SKA eventually saw off the challenge of HC Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk at the Saint Petersburg, earning a 5:2 victory in the fifth match of the 2020/2021 KHL regular season.
Anton Burdasov prodded the puck home from point blank range to give SKA the advantage in the first period. However, in the second, Neftekhimik suddenly came roaring back to take an unlikely lead as Alexander Osipov smashed the puck beyond Alexander Samonov on the powerplay and Pavel Padakin scored from the right flank.
Nevertheless, SKA promptly conjured up the perfect response, as Finnish forward Miro Aaltonen netted twice in quick succession before the buzzer sounded to put our team in the box seat ahead of the third frame.
This time, our players wouldn't allow Neftekhimik a path back into proceedings, as Vladimir Tkachyov registered his first of the campaign and Aaltonen completed an impressive hat trick.
SKA will now prepare to face Avangard Omsk in Balashikha on Tuesday. Puck drop is scheduled for 19:30 local time.
