On February 5, the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) made this following statement concerning the 2021/2022 season:
"To ensure that the playoffs go ahead in the best possible conditions for the competing teams and their fans during this on-going pandemic, the league is proposing not to play the remaining games of the regular system and to submit a new system to determine the final regular season standings for ratification by the Board of Directors and the agreement of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation.
The league looked at several alternatives to determine the results of the regular season and the teams qualified for the playoffs. It is important to find a formula that is fair and guarantees equal conditions for every team. The most objective solution is to nominate the 16 teams with the highest points-per-game percentage."
If this decision is confirmed, SKA will compete against Dinamo Minsk in the first round of the KHL Gagarin Cup playoffs.
At the moment, our team is continuing to prepare for the next stage of the campaign. SKA will participate in three matches in Sochi, two of which are a part of the Sochi Winter Cup. In Saint Petersburg, our players will subsequently play in two friendly games against Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg (22nd and 24th of February) and in another match on February 26 (opponent yet to be confirmed. Information concerning ticket sales for the games at the Ice Palace will be released in the coming days.
