In the home opener of the 2019/2020 KHL season, SKA held off HC Sibir Novosibirsk at the packed Saint Petersburg Ice Palace, securing an important 4:2 triumph.
After a goalless first period, Jori Lehtera opened the scoring on the powerplay in the second, before Vladimir Tkachyov doubled the advantage with a wonderful effort when clean through.
Jori Lehtera then made it three before the second frame came to an end, tipping the puck beyond Sibir goalkeeper Alexei Krasikov to give SKA a healthy lead.
However, in the third period, Sibir suddenly threatened a comeback as Egor Milovzorov and Nikita Mikhaylov scored.
Nevertheless, SKA managed to keep the Siberian visitors at bay, and Viktor Tikhonov iced it with a late empty-netter to seal the dramatic 4:2 victory!
