In a highly dramatic affair, SKA just about managed to squeeze past HC Spartak Moscow at the Saint Petersburg Ice Palace, tallying a 3:2 KHL victory in overtime.
Having beaten Spartak in their two previous meetings in the current KHL season, SKA were huge favourites for this match, and our team opened the scoring within 10 minutes as Sergei Plotnikov forced a rebound over the line. However, 120 seconds after that marker, Robin Hanzl got Spartak on the board, making it 1:1.
After a scoreless second frame, Spartak suddenly took a shock lead in Saint Petersburg, with Kaspars Daugavins taking advantage of a loose puck. SKA were on the ropes, but with a mere 30 seconds remaining on the clock, Patrik Hersley launched a thumping one timer into the left corner to send the match into overtime.
Nail Yakupov promptly ended the game when scoring on the break away, sealing a difficult 3:2 SKA triumph over Spartak Moscow.
