SKA will complete their 2016/2017 KHL regular season campaign today against HC Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod in Saint Petersburg.
Traditonally, Torpedo are one of SKA's most awkward opponents in the KHL, with Torpedo regularly beating our team. Indeed, in late January, Torpedo defeated SKA 4:2 in Nizhny Novgorod, a loss which contributed to SKA failing to keep hold of first place. In order to have a chance of finishing in top position of the KHL standings, SKA have to take more points than CSKA Moscow in their match against Spartak. Both SKA and CSKA are locked on 134 points, but due to CSKA winning more matches in regulation, they have the advantage.
Currently occupying sixth place in the table, Torpedo need to win and hope that Dinamo Minsk drop points in order for them to climb to fifth. The Nizhny Novgorod own 104 points, coming off the back of a 2:4 setback in Moscow to CSKA. Forward Dmitry Syomin is their top scorer with 32 points (14+18), while first choice goaltender Ilya Proskuryakov has a 92.7 saves percentage.
Beating HC Sochi 6:2 on Thursday, SKA have kept the pressure on CSKA. Goaltender Mikko Koskinen stopped 24 of 26 shots in that game.
The SKA - Torpedo match will begin at 17.00 local time inside the Saint Petersburg Ice Palace. Life78 will broadcast live, and you can follow events on our official Twitter account.
