In the highly anticipated Army Derby, SKA failed to defeat arch-rivals HC CSKA Moscow, dropping a disappointing 1:2 defeat in the ensuing penalty shootout.

The visitors had taken the lead in the first period through Sergei Andronov's efforts, but in the second stanza, young forward Andrei Kuzmenko pounced on a loose puck to bat in an equaliser and net his first SKA marker in the process.

SKA had plenty of chances to win the match, however in the penalty shootout, CSKA Moscow star Maxim Shalunov scored three goals to earn a thrilling 2:1 win for the visiting team.
