In Saint Petersburg, SKA made a successful start to the latest 2020/2021 KHL regular season home series, comfortably defeating HC Vityaz Podolsk 5:1 at the Ice Palace.
SKA came flying out of the blocks as Kirill Marchenko, Vladislav Kamenev and Joonas Kemppainen all beat familiar face Ilya Ezhov in the Vityaz net. However, despite our players dominating the ensuing second stanza, the only goal was scored by Mattias Tendeby on the counter-attack for the visitors.
Nevertheless, we weren't about to allow Vityaz a way back into the game, as further impressive markers in the third period from Miro Aaltonen and Yakov Trenin successfully saw the match out! Goalkeeper Mikhail Berdin stopped 29 of the 30 Vityaz shots he faced.
SKA will now prepare to host Spartak Moscow on Thursday. Puck drop is scheduled for 19:30 local time.
