In Sochi, SKA played the first match of the 2018 Sochi Hockey Open against the hosts. However, nine SKA players are currently with the Russian Olympic team, and Nikita Gusev, Pavel Datsyuk and Nail Yakupov were left out of the line-up.
Sergei Plotnikov opened the scoring in the first period, before Sergei Kalinin doubled the advantage in the second. Alexander Barabanov netted a third in the final frame, however the home team did get one back.
Nevertheless, Ilya Kablukov hit the empty net in the dying moments to seal a 4:1 victory.
