In Sochi, SKA competed in their second Sochi Hockey Open fixture against HC Metallurg Magnitogorsk. Following the victory against Kunlun Red Star yesterday, head coach Oleg Znarok didn't make any major changes to the line-up. However, Viktor Komarov took Danila Kvartalnov's place in the first line.
SKA made a positive start to the first period, scoring twice. Sergei Shirokov and Alexander Khokhlachyov both found the net, putting our team in a commanding position. Nevertheless, Sergei Mozyakin did get Metallurg on the board before the frame reached its completion.
Not wanting to let Metallurg gain a foothold, our players continued playing with the initiative in the second stanza. Roman Rukavishnikov hit the target, extending SKA's lead to 3:1.
Alexander Barabanov, who scored four in the game against Kunlun Red Star, grabbed another goal during the third frame. Tomas Fillipi beat Mikko Koskinen late on, but SKA held on to win 4:2! The team will play in the Sochi Hockey Open final.
