On August 25, SKA Hockey Club held the official opening of the Red Machine Ice Hockey Development Centre in Saint Petersburg at Hockey City. SKA vice-president Roman Rotenberg, Saint Petersburg vice-governor Vladimir Kirillov, chairman of the city's sporting committee Pavel Belov and deputy chairman of the SKA Board of Directors Alexander Medvedev all participated in the event.
This is the first centre in Saint Petersburg for perfecting players' individual technical ability and all aspects of the sport. The centre works with all athletes of various ages and abilities, so anyone can come and join in. At this moment in time, all SKA system teams train at the centre.
The process at the centre involves creating a player profile, testing before the training sessions begin, coaching from a professional and tests after it finishes. Overall, there are 20 programs for both professionals and amateurs.
